Cleanroom Sandwich Panel Acceptance Testing: Pressure Decay, Smoke Test & Surface Inspection

06-10-2026

? 1. Pressure Decay Test

Purpose

Verify the cleanroom sandwich panel system is air-tight and can maintain pressure differential.

Procedure:

  1. Seal all openings (doors, vents, penetrations)

  2. Pressurize the room to 50Pa using a blower door

  3. Isolate the blower and measure the pressure drop

  4. Record the pressure after 15 minutes

Acceptance Criteria:

Cleanroom Class

Maximum Pressure Drop (15 min)

ISO 5

<10Pa

ISO 6

<15Pa

ISO 7

<20Pa

ISO 8

<30Pa

Failure Points:

  • Joint sealant gaps — especially at corners

  • Door frame gaps

  • Utility penetrations (pipes, cables) not sealed

How to Fix:

  • Apply additional PU sealant at leak points

  • Use a cleanroom sandwich panel with flush joint for better sealing

  • Seal all penetrations with fire-stop putty

? 2. Smoke Test (Particle Challenge)

Purpose

Visually identify air leakage paths in the cleanroom sandwich panel system.

Procedure:

  1. Generate a visible smoke source (e.g., smoke pen or fog machine)

  2. Move the smoke source along all joints, corners, and penetrations

  3. Observe if smoke is drawn into or out of the room

  4. Mark all leak points with tape

Acceptance Criteria:

  • No visible smoke infiltration at joints

  • No smoke escaping from the room through panel gaps

Failure Points:

  • Cleanroom sandwich panel with flush joint — if sealant is not continuous

  • Corner profiles not sealed

  • Ceiling-to-wall joints

How to Fix:

  • Re-seal all marked points with PU sealant

  • For persistent leaks, use a cleanroom sandwich panel with stainless steel skin with better edge sealing

? 3. Surface Inspection

Purpose

Verify the cleanroom sandwich panel surface is clean, smooth, and free of defects.

Inspection Checklist:

Item

Acceptance Criteria

Surface flatness

No visible bowing or warping

Scratches

No deep scratches (>0.1mm)

Stains

No oil, grease, or chemical stains

Joint smoothness

Cleanroom sandwich panel with flush joint — no step or ledge

Sealant quality

Continuous, smooth, no bubbles

Corner radius

R30 or R50 radius, sealed

Measurement Tools:

  • 2m straightedge for flatness

  • Surface roughness tester (Ra ≤ 0.8µm for GMP)

  • Lux meter for lighting uniformity (not panel-related but often checked)

? 4. Documentation Requirements

For GMP Compliance:

  • Mill certs for all cleanroom sandwich panel batches

  • Fire test certificates

  • Coating thickness reports

  • Installation records with photos

  • Pressure decay test results

  • Smoke test video or photos

From SAMZOON:
